The first new neighbourhood in Gainsborough’s growth plan comprises 2,500 homes, a mixed-use district centre with provision for 600 jobs, two primary school sites with associated local centres and associated green infrastructure. studio | REAL led a design team to produce the masterplan which was generated through the use of large-scale physical models as an aid to design and community participation.
Further large scale models explained the three dimensional built form of the masterplan and showed key places within the masterplan to give an idea of the proposed character. Alongside this we developed a contemporary architectural language based on the building traditions of North Lincolnshire to try to give the neighbourhood some firm roots in the town and surrounding area.
