A series of studies were undertaken by studio | REAL for Arnold White Estates Ltd to support a masterplan for strategic growth in Eastern Leighton Linslade, a town of 32,000 people in South Bedfordshire. The masterplan covers an area of about 300 hectares and includes 111 hectares of green infrastructure, 20 hectares of employment, 27 hectares of schools and community facilities.
Existing landscape features are integrated into the proposals to provide a multifunctional green infrastructure for biodiversity, recreation, landscape character, visual quality and woodfuel for biomass district heating. The extension is well integrated with the town by a central avenue that links the main radials and directly connects new neighbourhood and local centres where the main facilities are located.
