YEOVIL TOWN, SOMERSET

Vitality and prosperity

The Yeovil urban development framework sets out physical solutions to deliver the Yeovil Vision, a strategic agenda for the future vitality and prosperity of the town.

In order to analyse the impact of topography on the townscape, we prepared a 3D physical model of the town. We walked and mapped the town’s radial routes and completed a landscape setting and character analysis. This provided the necessary data for a spatial plan that not only considers the commercial heart of the town, but also its links with surrounding areas and communities.

These links included the re-establishment of historical routes into the town centre, the transformation of the town centre bypass and the introduction of green corridors connecting the town centre with the Country Park. Our recommendations have developed into a series of projects which include creating design briefs for key development sites and proposals for the improvement of the public realm.
