WEMBLEY TALL BUILDINGS STUDY, LONDON

Tall buildings strategy

The opening of Wembley Stadium and the development of the surrounding area has led to an increase in demand for tall buildings.

We were commissioned by the London Borough of Brent to identify the key issues arising from this demand, provide advice regarding suitable locations, and guidance about both scale and design.

We provided a definition for tall buildings in this context, assessed locations where tall buildings could be acceptable using a 3D digital model of the town,
provided design guidance, and set out a checklist for planning applications proposing tall buildings. The 3D model was also used to assess potential impacts of tall buildings on the skyline for candidate sites from six key views we had identified.

In addition, the study demonstrated that high densities can be achieved with low to medium rise streetfrontage development and permeable street patterns as illustrated in the graphic.
