CHARACTERISATION AND DESIGN GUIDANCE
Design guidance, particularly guidance that seeks to reinforce local distinctiveness, needs to be based on a thorough understanding of what gives a place its character.
One of the best and most cost-effective ways to gain that understanding is to tap into the knowledge of local people, including the local authority team, who often have a deep understanding of local character. We’ve used this approach to produce design guides for urban and rural locations for local authorities across the country.
In addition to creating new guidance, we are often commissioned to update existing guidance to take account of emerging sustainability standards and new technologies.
