FOLESHILL ROAD CORRIDOR, COVENTRY, WEST MIDLANDS
Arterial city route
The Foleshill Road corridor, running for four miles between the M6 and the city centre, is a key arterial route into Coventry. We were commissioned by Coventry City Council to prepare a strategy for the long-term regeneration of the corridor and surrounding districts, including an implementation plan to establish priorities and identify potential funding opportunities.
Like many arterial corridors the route has changed as the city has grown. The corridor runs through
neighbourhoods of differing character, with many suffering issues of multiple-deprivation. This study was an attempt by the City Council to address these issues and generate momentum for future initiatives.
Through visual, land-use, historical and townscape analysis, we identified regeneration opportunities for the Coventry Canal, the re-use of old factory buildings and industrial structures, sites for new development and public realm improvements, all of which would reinforce the characters of the distinctive neighbourhoods along the route.
