EAST STOUR VILLAGE, ASHFORD, KENT

Partnership for a new neighbourhood

studio | REAL worked with Barratt Homes on a competition bid for a new neighbourhood of 1,100 homes on Church Commissioners’ land at East Stour Village, near Ashford, Kent. The scheme followed a brief prepared by the Commissioners for a range of distinct character areas and included a new commercial centre and school.

The design made strong references to existing settlement patterns in this part of Kent within a contemporary architectural language. The scheme achieved the high design standards sought by the land owners while delivering the required housing mix and necessary project viability.
