Promoting local distinctiveness
As part of a masterplanning commission for the new southern neighbourhood in Gainsborough, we studied the local architectural character and prepared concept designs which illustrated the quality and variety of development that could be achieved.
Our approach maximises the opportunities presented by the natural topography and character of the site. A good example of this is shown in the scheme for the scarp edge where we created a design with units stepping down the contours of the hillside. This approach minimises the profile of the units when viewed from lower surrounding areas, but exploits the memorable views westwards over the River Trent for residents.
Another part of the development capitalises on an opportunity presented by the neighbourhood-wide sustainable urban drainage strategy by grouping housing around a new small lake. Each dwelling benefits from a waterside terrace.
Both these examples illustrate our passion for innovative architecture which responds to its surroundings and enhances community life.
