studio | REAL is proud to support the Joint Centre for Urban Design (JCUD) at Oxford Brookes University by sponsoring two annual awards - for best use of ‘Graphic Communication’ at diploma stage and for best ‘Urban Design Research’ at MA dissertation stage.
The Joint Centre offered one of the first urban design courses in the UK. Its graduates now staff and lead major city planning and design departments and private practices throughout the world. Many of our own practice team are former graduates, tutors and lecturers of the JCUD.
On completing four years as external examiner to the Joint Centre in 2003, Roger Evans offered to sponsor the awards in recognition of the quality of the urban design course. At the end of each academic year, the Practice looks forward to reviewing the awarded work and meeting the winners at our Practice for the presentation of the prize.
After five years, we now have ten prize winners. We have been impressed by the diversity of the work and creativity and innovation displayed. This e-book, produced by graphic designer Fern Lee at studio | REAL, records the ideas and interests of the students over the last half decade. We will add to the book each year and hope that it gives past prize winners a sense of achievement and prospective students a taste of what they might also achieve.
