March | RTPI Housing & Urban Design Groups visit Newhall
Despite grey skies, members from the RTPI Housing and Urban Design Network Groups turned out in force to visit Newhall on 29th March 2011. Rachel Aldred presented the background of this forward thinking development, which studio | REAL began masterplanning and promoting some 18years ago. It is very exciting and rewarding to be able to now see the living results of all that hard work and it is made even better by the number of awards won. Newhall has become renowned as an exemplar development attracting visitors from throughout Europe. It demonstrates that it is possible to make a vision a reality, and that residential development can be contemporary. Also, that alternative highway engineering solutions are viable and play an important role, along with the treatment of the public realm, in creating successful and high quality places - all of which generate viability and added value.
Head of Development Control at Uttlesford District Council, Michael Ovendon, comments:

I also enjoyed being able to have a chat about the development ….. It was very interesting to see contemporary architecture relatively locally. Thank you.’
