The annual RTPI Planning Award for New Neighbourhoods has been awarded to studio | REAL for the urban design and masterplanning of Newhall, Harlow. The judges citation says:
As a 'piece of town' rather than a mere housing estate, the Newhall development addresses key issues of design quality, sustainability and community building in a plan for some 2,700 dwellings which will take 15 years to complete. it's refreshing to see a development where buyers have the opportunity to choose homes of the 21st century rather than distorted echoes of the past.
