Town Planning with Vision?

This invited article for Building Design argues for a greater focus on spatial planning and how an improved awareness of how good urban form could improve social and economic life-chances for everyone:

‘Good urban form endures for centuries. The street patterns which define our most treasured towns and city quarters are today capable of accommodating new uses for new generations – long life, loose fit. Yet we have not been building good urban form but rigid sub-urban pods that are joined up by fast distributor roads.’
