“studio | REAL has provided a clear and imaginative lead, and their creative approach to quality of design in architecture, landscape and the public realm will be an inspiration to others wishing to create new communities.”

RTPI Judging Panel 2003, in awarding Newhall, Harlow the RTPI Award for Planning for New Neighbourhoods.

“As a ‘piece of town’ rather than a mere housing estate, the Newhall development addresses key issues of design quality, sustainability and community building in a plan for some 2,700 dwellings which will take15 years to complete. Design codes are critical to the design co-ordination of the project - and Newhall demonstrates that they’re the essential working drawings of master-plans - and that they give certainty to developers. The judges said it’s refreshing to see a development where buyers have the opportunity to choose homes of the 21st century rather than distorted echoes of the past.”
